AGES AND ABILITIES IN JOHNSTON!
Get in shape and make friends in a safe, positive, and faith-filled setting with “Body and Soul” Fitness Ministry at St Paul Presbyterian Church! Our church has been blessed with our Family Activity Center, a spacious and modern gymnasium complete with showers, and we are sharing it with the community by offering affordable fitness opportunities for all ages and abilities taught by qualified, professional instructors. Our goal is not simply to offer classes, but to form caring communities of spiritual encouragement, recognizing that we are on a journey to wholeness with one another and God!
Our offerings are:
Active & Fit is a moderate intensity, low impact class that uses a variety of fitness formats to build strength, cardiovascular fitness, balance and flexibility. All fitness levels and abilities, including those who prefer a chair, are welcome! Classes are offered Mondays @ 9:30 and Wednesdays @ 9:00 am. Instructor: Cari Jones. Chair Yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Many of the basic body mechanics of the individual postures are retained, no matter the stance of the practitioner. While seated on chairs, students can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild back bends. Chair Yoga is offered on Thursdays at 4:50pm. Basic Yoga - Basic yoga is for those who need something a little more challenging than Chair Yoga but not as challenging as Faithful Yoga. Basic Yoga is offered on Thursdays at 4:00pm. Instructor: Jennifer Shide
Faithful Yoga improves flexibility and focus by integrating Christian spirituality with the practice of yoga. Classes are offered Thursday at 5:40pm. Please refer to the Registration form for pricing. Instructor: Jennifer Shide.
Restorative Yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures in the course of an hour. It is a completely different experience than most contemporary yoga.
During the long holds of restorative yoga, however, your muscles are allowed to relax deeply. It's a unique feeling because props, rather than your muscles, are used to support your body. Restorative classes are very mellow, making them a good complement to more active practices and an excellent antidote to stress. Restorative Yoga is offered on Monday at 8:30 am. AMPLIFY is designed to increase your strength and vitality through unique workouts focusing on CORE, STRENGTH and CARDIO training. Perfect for working professionals or busy moms with children! Classes are Monday - Friday from 5:15 - 6:00 am. Please refer to the registration form for pricing. Instructor: Anne Schoenauer.
Men’s Open Basketball Meet other men and get a good workout at open scrimmages every Saturday at 9:00am. First meeting: September 9. A $1 donation per class is encouraged. Coordinator: Jeff Nelson.
Pickleball- is offered 7 days a week at St Paul. It's $2 per day to play. We have 2 courts going and rotate players. Times are: M-W-F @ 10:30-12:30, Wed evening at 5:30-8:30, Tues & Thurs from 1:00- 3:00, Saturday 10:30-12:30 and Sunday 11:30-1:15.
