2007 JOURNAL ENTRIES

garden7June 2 - Shelley and Mike worked in the food pantry garden today. Mike erected a structure for the misplanted pole beans. Shelley mowed around the garden while Mike mulched with grass clippings and straw. Some pepper plants need to be replaced and we need to weed. The Memorial Garden needs some loving care as people are able to get there to weed and reclaim the pathway. There is an occupied bird’s nest on the arbor.

June 3 - Annie and Shelley planted the tomato plants that Carol Magnani donated this morning and did some weeding. A baby bird was spotted in the nest on the arbor. Hopefully we will be able to work on Wednesday evening. We need more grass clippings for mulch if anyone has any.

Garden6June 5 - Kent went to the garden and did the hoeing/cultivating and some hand weeding this afternoon since Wednesday is predicted to be a rain-out. Things are beginning to look good throughout the garden.

garden8June 5 - Val writes - Even the kids get involved sometime! Elisabeth M and Claire N worked in the garden on Tuesday. They spread out more newspapers and grass clippings in the squash bed, and added some grass to the tomato bed. We could use another load of grass clippings, if anyone has some. It would be good to get that finished before it gets really hot. They spotted a baby bunny in the beans. Drat! Val

garden9June 6 - Note from Donna – I worked for a while at the garden this afternoon. The vegetable garden was looking good-can't believe how much it has grown since I last worked there. So I did a little weeding, but not nearly enough, in the perennial garden. I mostly pulled the big weeds around the bench and barely started on the creeping charlie and water grass that's invaded the midsection of the beds. At least with all the rain, the pulling was easy. - - Annie writes - Kent, Annetta and I also worked at the garden Wednesday evening and pulled many weeds out of the memorial garden. Kent thinned the beans.
Thank you all who are helping, it is coming along very well! Thanks to the rain there is no need to water right now.

June 13 – Val and Shelley weeded the food pantry garden and the Celtic cross garden and applied some weed killer where appropriate. Everything is growing quickly. We now have a weekly grass clippings source so will add those as they become available.
Thank you to Deb for watering last week
