May 9th - Annie, Val and Shelley met at the food pantry garden to begin planting the garden. They met a new volunteer, Kent, who was looking for a garden in which he could donate his time and talents. He has a wealth of knowledge to share. The pea trellis and pole bean supports were placed. Pea and bean seeds were planted. Donated pepper, egg plant, and tomato plants were also put in. Chicken wire replaced the ugly fencing plastic fence on the south fence to keep the bunnies out of the garden. We will meet next Wednesday night, May 23, at 6:30 to finish planting the garden. We have more pepper plants and will add other plants as needed. Thank you to everyone for the plant and seed donations.

garden2May 11 - Val watered and added some grass clipping for mulch.

May 12 - Annie and Shelley added snapdragons and petunias to Kathryn's garden and watered the gardens.

garden3May 16 -Val, Donna, Kent, Shelley and Mike met at the garden and finished putting in all of the plants and seeds. They mulched until they ran out of grass. The beans have all ready sprouted and the all of the plants look great. We will continue to work on the gardens on Wednesday nights at 6:30. Or people can stop by to weed at any time. The perennial garden now needs some attention.

May 21 - Hi! In spite of the forecast for Wednesday, I was aghast at how dry the little plants were after the windy weekend. The soaker hoses have been run today in three of the beds, and the peppers at the chivesback were hand-watered. In between errands, and switching the hoses I was mentally making a list for Wednesday evening. Upon entering the parking lot, there was Kent doing exactly what I also thought needed to be done. He was carefully hand picking weeds around the sugarsnap peas, and other areas, and thinning all those beans. And we bemoaned the dry state of the beds.....I watered Kathryn's garden and mulched a little (the free stuff) around the newly planted annuals. The memorial garden looks absolutely lush. It needs some serious weeding, and some of the plants could stand some thinning. See you on Wednesday.

May 29 - Garden spotters have recently noted both David Smith and Annetta Baker weeding in the cooler morning hours of the day. Thank you, secret gardeners!!! Also thank you to everyone who signed up for a week of watering. We will meet this Wednesday May 30 at 6:30 to work in the garden. Hope to see you there!!
