St Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston, Iowa is hiring a Director of Children & Youth Ministry—a part-time role focused on helping young people (PreK–12th grade) grow in faith, discover belonging, and experience the joy of following Jesus in community. This position is approximately 25 hours per week and pays $17–$19 per hour, depending on experience.
Some planning and communication work may be done from home.
You will work with a supportive staff team and strong volunteers.
An office space with computer and high-speed internet is provided.
A $500 annual professional development budget is included.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in teaching, ministry, youth leadership, camps, coaching, or nonprofit programming. In Children’s Ministry, you will:
Lead and coordinate Sunday School (PreK–5/6)
Recruit and equip volunteers
Offer children’s moments in worship
Collaborate on the annual Christmas program
Help lead Vacation Bible School with a partner congregation.
In Youth Ministry, you will:
Lead middle and high school gatherings
Teach Confirmation with the pastor
Guide retreats, service projects, and mission trips
Build trusted relationships with teens and families.
In Worship and Intergenerational Ministry, you will work closely with the Director of Music & Worship Arts to incorporate children and youth into worship and support family faith practices.
Who We’re Looking For
We seek someone with a living and growing Christian faith who connects naturally with children and teens.
You should bring creativity, flexibility, a joyful spirit, and strong communication and organizational gifts.
Comfort with email, social media, and digital tools is helpful.
Experience in ministry, teaching, camps, youth leadership, or related work is encouraged.
You must be willing to complete a background check and have reliable transportation.
